turtle, covering eggs

Posted by Mackenzie (Salem, Oregon, United States) on 2 August 2008 in Animal & Insect.

From the northern boundary waters of Minnesota.
This fellow returned to its nest after a thunderstorm, its back legs moving quickly to cover the eggs again. It's a painted turtle, although it's back is not nearly as colorful as it's front -- see the previous shot.
