turtle, nesting

From the northern boundary waters of Minnesota.
This fellow kept returning to the same spot to build a nest. I believe it's a painted turtle.

Wow, I have never seen a painted pattern like that on a turtle... do you think he's on his way out on the town, all tarted up hoping to attract a nice lady? Maybe he has found one if he's making the nest... beautiful, a great image.
